During the rainy season and periods of high humidity, venomous snakes begin to leave their shelters and seek refuge in residential areas and people's homes. Snakes possess an exceptionally acute sense of smell because they perceive the environment through scent particles present in the air. There are substances found in our homes and kitchens whose strong aromas can disrupt the snakes' sense of smell, forcing them to move in the opposite direction. If you wish to prevent snakes from entering your home, you should follow these recommendations.
Phenol and white vinegar: The overly acidic and pungent odor of vinegar and phenol irritates the skin and olfactory receptors of snakes.
It is recommended to spray white vinegar or thick phenol on windowsills, drainage pipe openings, and main door thresholds twice a week.
Frankincense and kerosene/vegetable oil with garlic: Strong compounds found in frankincense, as well as sulfur present in garlic, cause discomfort in the nervous system of snakes, prompting them to move away from that area.
To repel snakes, you need to crush frankincense balls, mix them with a small amount of mustard oil or crushed garlic, and scatter them in dark corners and cluttered areas of the house.
Naphthalene balls / bitumen granules: Snakes strongly dislike the smell of naphthalene; its aroma gives them a feeling of suffocation, and they immediately leave the area.
These balls should be placed outside the house, near the main entrance, behind pots, and in the corners of storage rooms (while ensuring that children or pets cannot reach them).
Mint and cinnamon/cloves: The sharp natural extract from cinnamon oil, cloves, and mint disturbs snakes, causing disorientation and making them move further away.
To apply this, take a spray bottle, add water and 10–15 drops of clove or cinnamon oil, and then spray the solution on walls, windows, doors, and balconies.
It is important to control the mouse population: snakes follow scents in search of prey, so it is necessary to prevent the breeding of mice and lizards in the house.
Additionally, dry leaves, bricks, and piles of wood accumulated on balconies or in gardens should be removed immediately.
Furthermore, be sure to install a fine metal mesh on the drainage lines in the bathroom and kitchen.
