Central Bank of Uzbekistan and Tencent Discuss Cross-Border QR Payments

The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a meeting with Tencent to discuss the prospects for developing cross-border QR payments. During the negotiations, the possibility of integrating Uzbekistan's Unified QR Payment System with international payment ecosystems was examined.

According to the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan, this meeting took place as part of the Silk Road Finance and Technology Forum 2026. Participants focused on the possibilities of connecting Uzbekistan's national QR infrastructure with foreign payment systems.

Such integration could simplify cashless payments for both citizens of Uzbekistan and foreign guests of the country. Specifically, connecting the Unified QR Payment System to global payment networks could potentially allow tourists and other visitors to Uzbekistan to pay for goods and services using their familiar payment applications.

Furthermore, for Uzbek citizens, this could expand the possibilities of using QR payments while traveling abroad. The parties also studied Tencent's experience in integrating national QR infrastructures with international payment ecosystems, which is planned to be used in further discussions on possible solutions for Uzbekistan.

Following the negotiations, an agreement was reached to hold additional technical meetings. These meetings are intended to determine the next steps of cooperation and develop a clear plan for integrating Uzbekistan's Unified QR Payment System with international payment ecosystems.
