A working meeting between Uzbekistan and Russia took place in Moscow on August 28, where issues concerning the protection of the rights of Uzbek citizens in Russia, as well as further cooperation in the migration sector, were discussed, according to the news agency Dunyo.
The meeting was attended by Andrey Kikot, Deputy First Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Russia, Petr Gorodov, Deputy Prosecutor General, and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia. The delegation from Uzbekistan was headed by Olimjon Abdullaev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, and also included Bekhzod Musaev, Director of the Migration Service, Botirjon Asadov, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Russia, Meriddin Khayirdinov, Consul General, and Bahodir Nazarov, Embassy Advisor.
One of the key issues was ensuring the rights and legitimate interests of Uzbek citizens residing in Russia. The parties discussed the need for timely notification to the Uzbek side regarding cases of detention of Uzbek citizens, compliance with their rights during migration procedures, and prompt resolution of emerging problems.
Special attention was paid to the Register of Controlled Persons and the possibilities for resolving the legal status of certain vulnerable categories of citizens. Participants also reviewed issues of organized employment of Uzbek citizens in Russia, including their professional training before departure and the improvement of migration processes.
Following the negotiations, the parties reached an agreement to continue substantive interaction to protect the rights and legitimate interests of Uzbek citizens and to further develop bilateral cooperation in the field of migration.
