According to the Ombudsman's Office for Children's Affairs in Uzbekistan, on August 29, 2026, twelve Uzbek minors were returned to Uzbekistan who were unsupervised in various regions of Russia.
The return of the children was the result of joint work by the Commissioner for Children's Rights of Uzbekistan and the Commissioner for Children's Rights of Russia. While in Russia, the children were housed in child care institutions in the regions where they were located.
With the support of the Ombudsman for Children's Rights of Russia, the children were provided with necessary conditions in their places of stay, including Novosibirsk, Kazan, Tula, and the Moscow region. They were provided with specialized care, housing, organized meals, clothing, and essential items.
On August 29, representatives of the Ministry of Internal Affairs transported all 12 children to Uzbekistan. Currently, the returned minors are temporarily housed at the Center for Social and Legal Assistance to Minors under the Department of Juvenile Delinquency Prevention of the Main Directorate of Internal Affairs of Tashkent.
The Ombudsman of Uzbekistan stated that his office plans to continue cooperation with national agencies and foreign partners for the repatriation of children left without supervision abroad.
