However, buying ready-made pots, especially cement ones, can often be very expensive and may exceed many people's budgets.
If you want to avoid constant expenses for purchasing new containers, you can create beautiful and durable pots yourself using old plastic buckets, basins, or containers, as well as old towels. For this project, not many materials are required.
How to make a pot at home?
To create a beautiful and durable pot, you do not need to gather a large number of items; it is enough to use some things that you already have at home. The manufacturing process includes the following steps:
- First, thoroughly clean the jar or plastic container you plan to use. Then, turn it upside down on a flat surface and cover it with a piece of plastic or old newspaper.
- The chosen jar will serve as a mold to give the pot the desired configuration. Therefore, you should choose a jar whose size matches your preferences for the future pot.
- In a large plastic container, prepare a mixture by gradually adding water to the cement. It is important that the mixture is neither too liquid nor too thick so that the towel can be completely submerged in it. Tip: when working with cement, it is best to wear rubber gloves to protect your hands.
- After the cement is evenly distributed, lower the old towel into the cement mixture. Gently turn it over so that the cement covers every part of the fabric, ensuring that no part of the towel remains dry.
- Once the cement has adhered well, carefully lift the towel and place it over the inverted plastic jar.
- Stretch the towel around the entire perimeter of the jar, adjusting the edges and folds to your liking. You can create a simple design by distributing the fabric evenly, or emphasize the folds by giving them volume.
- These folds will give the pot a decorative look after drying, so attention to detail is important at this stage.
- After the towel is set in the desired shape, let the pot dry for about 24–48 hours. During this time, avoid touching or moving the pot. Only after the cement has fully hardened should it be removed from the jar. Haste can lead to distortion of the pot's shape.
- After the cement has completely dried, slowly separate the pot from the jar. Check if there is any excess cement or fabric pieces on the outside, and carefully remove these defects if necessary.
- Thus, you obtain a uniquely designed cement pot made from an old towel.
Giving it a new look with paint
If you do not plan to paint the pot, you can use it as is. However, if you want to decorate it, you can paint the pot in your desired color. You can choose one shade or highlight the edges to make it more attractive.
