Participants gathered to honor the Prophet of Islam and affirm the values of brotherhood and social cohesion associated with his teachings. The word 'Ahmad' is one of the names and titles of Prophet Muhammad, so 'Umma Ahmad' carries a symbolic message of devotion to the Prophet, emphasizing shared identity and spiritual ties among Muslims.

Islamic Unity Week was first observed in Iran in the mid-1980s and is based on a decree by the late Imam Khomeini. Muslims worldwide observe this week between the specified dates.
