A photo exhibition titled 'Orlov Castle' has opened in the Tehran Metro, showcasing the historical and architectural features of the Alamut and Lamsar castles. The exhibition took place after the Alamut Castle and its associated fortifications were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
The exhibition features twenty selected photographs, taken both from ground level and from the air, capturing the castles and their surrounding landscapes. These images highlight the historical, architectural, and natural characteristics of the fortifications, captured by photographers from news and media outlets.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Cultural Heritage, Tourism, and Handicrafts in collaboration with the Tehran Urban and Suburban Railway Transport Operating Company. The exhibition also coincides with the celebration of Kazvin Day and aims to mark the inclusion of Alamut Castle and its related fortifications in the UNESCO list.
According to the organizers, choosing a busy metro station as the venue reflects the desire to bring cultural heritage beyond specialized venues such as museums and galleries, making it part of the daily life of Tehran's residents and passengers.
In the coming days, the exhibition is planned to move to other designated stations, allowing passengers and residents to view the photographs during their daily commutes.
The Alamut fortifications hold special significance due to their strategic location in the mountainous landscape, where the natural topography was integrated into the defensive planning. Their inscription on the World Heritage List has attracted new international attention to the historical landscape of the Alamut region.
The sites included are Alamut Castle, Lamsar, Navizarsheh, Shams-Kelaye, Kostinlar, Shirkhukh, and Ilan. Together, they formed an interconnected defensive and administrative system between the 11th and 13th centuries.
