The sensation of heat suddenly appearing in the soles of the feet should not be ignored. It is important to know the causes and prevention methods for this condition. Specialists note that for some people, this problem persists constantly, and such individuals need to consult a doctor.
Experts discussed the causes of burning in the legs, clarifying whether it is related to a lack of any vitamins or if there are other factors. One of the main causes of burning in the legs is peripheral neuropathy, which arises from nerve damage in the legs. When nerves function incorrectly, signals sent to the brain can become distorted, causing sensations of tingling, burning, or numbness.
In some cases, prolonged high blood sugar levels with diabetes can damage nerves. Therefore, people who regularly experience burning or tingling in their legs are advised to undergo a blood sugar test.
Professor Dr. Subhash Giri, Director of the Department of Medicine at RML Hospital in Delhi, told Aajtak.in that Vitamin B12 deficiency can affect nerves, potentially leading to burning or numbness in the legs. However, based solely on symptoms, it is impossible to definitively determine if this is caused specifically by B12 deficiency. Other potential causes may include thyroid problems or kidney diseases.
Furthermore, some people may feel warmth and burning in the soles after standing for a long time, intense walking, or when pressure is applied to the legs. In such situations, immediate medical consultation for examination is required.
Dr. Subhash warns that it is undesirable to start taking vitamin supplements independently based on someone's advice if a person is experiencing burning in their legs. This is because if a person has diabetes or another neurological disease, taking only vitamins will not lead to a full recovery.
