Transgender actress Ela D. Verma discusses the complexities of gender transition and her love life

Actress Ela D. Verma, previously known as a man named Dev, wishes to live as a woman. She has undergone hormone therapy to align with her desire to live as a girl.

The path to gender transition has not been easy, but Ela continued to pursue her goal. In an interview with Siddharth Kanana, she spoke about the difficulties associated with sex reassignment surgeries.

According to her, sex reassignment surgery is a very complex procedure, but the main problem before it arises is the ability to cover its costs, as many mistakenly believe it is done for entertainment. Ela emphasized that sex reassignment surgeries are not covered by insurance because they are viewed as a personal desire, not an illness, and are quite expensive.

In her case, the operation did not take place due to lack of funds. When the money became available, she worried about being bedridden for three or four months, as she is the sole provider for her family. Therefore, she chose an alternative method.

Ela planned to undergo minor surgery in Turkey, but this was not possible due to the current situation in the country. Currently, she has started taking hormones, which has slowed the appearance of male stubble and the widening of her shoulders.

When asked if she would have a uterus after the operation, she answered negatively. She clarified that surgery allows for the creation of a vagina and breasts, but it is impossible to create ovaries and a uterus. The cost of such interventions ranges from 4 to 20 lakh rupees.

Ela admits that she is different from others and can never give birth. She also shared information about her personal life: she is dating content creator Vansh. She notes that Vansh even struggled with her own parents. Although she cannot give birth to a child, there are other ways to have offspring. However, she added that she cannot control her partner's desires if he suddenly wants a child specifically from her.
