The project, titled 'Undulations That Become the Ground of Daily Life / TJAD Original Design Studio,' consists of transforming a dike into a succession of gentle hills. These elevations undulate along the riverbed, reminiscent of wind-blown waves spreading over the water, rising up the bank and expanding to the city's edge.
These hills serve as a shelter for the dynamism of urban life, capturing the river breeze and adapting to the natural contours of the terrain. Thus, the dike, which was originally rigid, begins to function as a flexible and active ground.
As industrial activities decrease along the Jiaojiang River, the former industrial zone adjacent to the river is being progressively converted into a mixed environment, capable of housing various urban functions and integrating infrastructure systems covering blue, green, and gray aspects.
This undertaking is located in the western part of the riverside public space, following the south bank of the Jiaojiang River. It represents an essential component of the Zhejiang Province Seawall Safety and Resilience Project.
Situated near the Hangzhou–Taizhou High-Speed Railway Jiaojiang Bridge, the project serves as the main visual entry point for high-speed travelers arriving in the city of Taizhou.
The recovery of the old industrial area is achieved through ecological restoration. Furthermore, the project reconnects the city and the river through multi-level connections and redefines flood control infrastructure using undulating microtopography, restoring vitality to the site and creating a symbiotic and publicly accessible waterfront.
