Despite above-expected rainfall in many regions of the country in August, the overall deficit of monsoon rains in India could not be reduced. As of July 31, the cumulative rainfall deficit was 13%, but after one month it approached 14%.
The increase in the deficit occurred due to a significant lack of precipitation in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, and some northeastern states.
The uneven distribution of rainfall led to a 2% decrease in the area sown with the Kharif crop.
