Residents of Mithila have received significant news: a modern sports complex and a high-tech cricket stadium are planned for Darbhanga. This project involves demolishing the old Nehru Stadium in Laheriya Sarai to erect a national-level sports facility, for which over 200 million rupees have been allocated.
The new stadium will be designed to host day-night format IPL matches. It will be equipped with modern amenities, including high-mast lighting systems, hybrid turf, and pavilions with advanced features. Large display screens will also be installed to meet international competition standards.
The proposal was confirmed by Sanjay Sarawagi, regional president of the Bihar BJP and a Darbhanga municipal councilor. He stated that the Minister of State, Samrat Chaudhary, reviewed the stadium demonstration and presentation. It was announced that the government has given the green light to advance this initiative. The main goal of the project is to provide youth and athletes with a higher quality platform for development.
The planned sports complex will not be limited to cricket. It will feature an indoor multi-purpose hall that includes a swimming pool, a boxing ring, a zone for judo and wrestling, as well as four badminton courts. Additionally, facilities for basketball, squash, and a modern gym are planned.
Sports science, biomechanics, and medical services will be implemented to enhance athletic performance. A 100-bed hostel, guest house, and cafeteria are provided for visiting athletes, ensuring comfortable accommodation and training during national-level competitions.
The complex grounds will also be equipped for tennis and volleyball, along with a dedicated training area. Solar energy is proposed to meet the energy needs. To manage traffic during major events, a multi-level parking lot is planned, taking into account the city's road conditions.
Sanjay Sarawagi emphasized that for Darbhanga, this is not just a stadium but an opportunity to realize the dreams of thousands of young people. He noted that talented athletes from Mithila, which has contributed to the country in education, culture, and art, should also have access to national and international arenas.
The infrastructure preparation meets the standards for hosting major tournaments like the IPL. This is expected to give local players experience in large-scale competitions and increase youth interest in sports. This project is viewed as a critical step toward improving Mithila's sporting base.
