The twelve members forming the jury have been considering the fate of Lizzy Clancy since Thursday. This woman was tried for nearly five weeks over the deaths of her children in the United States. The children, aged eight months and three and five years, died from strangulation using rubber bands, and the case raised questions about depression and postpartum psychosis.
After the presentation of closing arguments, the jury, consisting of nine women and three men, began deliberations. Since the weekend has passed, the group has not yet reached a conclusion on whether Clancy, who is currently 36 years old, should be found guilty and to what extent.
The jury will reconvene on Monday to continue discussions, but before that time, they have not limited themselves only to talking.
What the jury has already done?
On Thursday, CNN International reported that among the jury members were both 'a woman who wiped away tears during the closing arguments' and 'a man who yawned during the prosecution's final report.' After these observations, the group met for only two days—Thursday and Friday. It was on the last day that changes were made to the request plan.
According to The New York Times, citing Clancy's lawyer Kevin Reddington, the jury requested on Friday morning to see a knife and several bottles of pills believed to be related to Clancy's suicide attempt.
More than 80 people testified during this trial. Possible charges against this woman include negligent homicide (a possibility introduced recently), first-degree or second-degree murder. There is also a possibility that Clancy will not be found guilty due to mental health issues; in that case, she would be hospitalized.
After her children were strangled, Lizzy Clancy jumped from her home window, surviving the fall. This woman sustained serious spinal injuries that led to paraplegia.
