With the arrival of the rainy season, various insects and animals appear in residential areas. During this period, people are concerned not only about mosquitoes and other insects but also about the sudden appearance of frogs, sometimes along with snakes. Many people panic when they see a frog at night near the door, balcony, yard, or bathroom. Furthermore, frogs can create a mess.
If frogs frequently appear in your home during the monsoon season, there is no need to catch or kill them. By adopting a few small habits, you can block their entry points into the house and create an environment where they will not approach your dwelling.
Frogs are capable of getting inside a house even through very small openings. The space under the door, an open drain, a crack near a window, or the area around a pipe can be an easy path for them. Therefore, it is recommended to install a seal or rubber strip under the door. It is also essential to install a fine mesh or cover on drains in the bathroom and kitchen.
Any cracks in the wall or floor should be sealed. This is the simplest way to stop frogs from entering the house, and this method works for a long time.
During the rain, water can accumulate under pots, in buckets, old tires, coolers, or any empty containers. Frogs love such damp places. Therefore, after the rain, you must inspect the area around the house and empty all places where water has collected. You must maintain a clean drainage path in the yard and on the roof so that water does not stagnate. If water constantly collects in one place, it is better to fix the drainage problem in that area.
If the grass outside the house is too high or if dense bushes grow near pots and walls, this provides frogs with a cool and damp place to hide. Therefore, during the rainy season, you should regularly mow the grass around the house. Also, instead of placing pots right up against the wall, they should be placed at some distance. This will simplify cleaning and reduce moisture accumulation.
Bright light near doors or balconies at night attracts many small insects. Thanks to these insects, frogs can also reach this spot because they can easily find food there. Therefore, you should not leave the light on all night where it is not required. It is better to use lighting according to needs rather than installing bright lights directly above the door.
You can try using a salt method on the paths through which frogs enter the house. A small amount of salt can be sprinkled on the path leading to the house. Salt can be placed on door frames, outer corners, and in places where frogs try to penetrate. However, salt should not be sprinkled directly on the frog's body, as this can damage its skin.
If frogs frequently appear outdoors or in the garden, some people use coffee powder. A small amount of coffee is scattered in places where frogs are often found. It is believed that frogs do not like the smell of coffee.
