Kia is preparing to launch its new Kia Sorento model in the Indian market, thereby entering the premium SUV segment. This anticipated premium SUV is scheduled to go on sale on September 4th. The vehicle will be three-row and will be the company's first hybrid model.
In the Indian market, the Kia Sorento will be available in both hybrid and diesel versions. Production of this vehicle takes place directly in India, specifically at the plant in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh state.
The hybrid version of the Kia Sorento is equipped with a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that works together with an electric motor and a battery pack. This configuration includes a 6-speed automatic transmission, and Kia has confirmed the availability of All Wheel Drive.
The global version of the car develops 227 hp and 349 Nm of torque; however, information regarding the power of the model for the Indian market is currently unavailable. In addition to the hybrid option, the Sorento will also be available with a 2.2-liter diesel engine paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
The dimensions of the Kia Sorento are 4815 mm in length, 1900 mm in width, and have a wheelbase of 2815 mm. This vehicle is positioned as a premium seven-seater Kia SUV, although its interior differs from the Carrens. The cabin will feature a dual-screen display with two 12.3-inch screens.
The Sorento will be equipped with a panoramic roof, ventilated front seats, ventilated second-row seats, powered seat adjustment, ambient lighting, wireless charging, and a premium Bose audio system. In the most expensive configurations, captain's chairs may be installed in the second row, and Level 2 ADAS system installation is also provided.
According to preliminary data, the Kia Sorento may be released in India starting from ₹35 lakh (excluding taxes). Direct competitors to the vehicle include the Skoda Kodiaq, Toyota Fortuner, Jeep Meridian, MG Majestor, and Volkswagen Terron. Furthermore, it will compete with the recently launched MG Hector Tomahawk Plug-in Hybrid.
