SA Rugby is initiating legal action against unauthorized travel agencies that falsely accused the union of leaving fans without tickets before the Springboks versus All Blacks match held in Cape Town.
A significant number of fans claimed they were deceived when purchasing tickets for the highly anticipated showdown at the DHL stadium. SA Rugby clarified that these third-party operators acted outside the official ticketing system, which deprived affected fans of recourse through official channels.
In an official statement, SA Rugby confirmed that the union is seeking legal compensation from agencies that alleged that failures on the part of SA Rugby caused the lack of tickets for the Castle Double Malt Rugby’s Greatest Rivalry Test match at the DHL stadium. The union emphasized that such claims are entirely false.
Furthermore, in communications with disappointed clients, the agencies raised complaints pointing to issues with SA Rugby. However, the union added that these agencies illegally promised access to tickets they did not actually possess, violating the terms of the event sale.
The SA Rugby statement asserted that the companies acted illegally and recklessly for their own commercial gain at the expense of their clients, and that SA Rugby has referred this matter to its lawyers.
On the field, the Springboks team is aiming to overturn the defeat suffered in the first match of the series at Ellis Park in Johannesburg last week. The situation was complicated by the injury of flyhalf Handre Pollard on Friday, after which Sasha Feinberg-Mngomezulu took the starting position at ten.
