Abu Dhabi has announced that the Hafilat card, used for paying for public transport in the emirate, will be provided free of charge for one year to high-performing students in public schools.
This provision applies to senior high school graduates in Abu Dhabi who study at public educational institutions and achieve an average score of 95 percent or higher during the 2025–2026 academic year. Furthermore, these students will be able to use expedited service at a designated point, as reported by Abu Dhabi Mobility.
Hafilat cards are designed for use in both intra-emirate buses and intercity buses connecting various regions. This card simplifies travel as passengers do not have to purchase multiple individual tickets.
There are four types of Hafilat cards: Anonymous (for 10 dirhams, suitable for tourists and casual travelers, no registration required); Personalized (for 10 dirhams, for permanent residents and passengers, requires registration and presentation of Emirates ID); Student (for 5 dirhams, available to eligible students, requires presentation of a student ID and other documents requested by the department); and for Elderly Citizens (free, for qualified elderly citizens of the UAE, requires registration and Emirates ID).
Typically, using Hafilat cards requires an initial top-up of the balance. After this, the available balance can be used to pay for bus rides or to purchase weekly, monthly, or annual Hafilat passes, according to the official website.
