He revealed that after achieving his best seasonal throw of 88.05 meters at the Diamond League in Lausanne, he felt in good shape and had gained the necessary momentum. However, shortly after this, he suffered an ankle ligament tear during training.
Following extensive consultations with the medical team and doctors, Niraj decided to dedicate the remainder of the season entirely to recovery. He expressed disappointment, especially since he felt his form had fully returned. Nevertheless, he demonstrated resilience, noting that difficulties and setbacks are part of the journey. His primary focus is now on recovery to return to the field even stronger. He also thanked all his fans for their support and love.
Niraj's performances this year have been mixed. Although he managed to secure a spot on the podium at the Glasgow event, he conceded the gold medal to Rumesh Patirage from Sri Lanka, who made an impressive throw of 89.75 meters. Subsequently, in Lausanne, Niraj finished seventh overall and participated in the qualification round, but this tournament now marks the end of his 2026 season.
This injury came at a critical time for Niraj, as he was beginning to feel the return of his former form and rhythm. He acknowledged that such setbacks are part of the sporting path, and his full concentration is now directed solely towards recovery. Due to this injury, Niraj will be unable to participate in the 2026 Asian Games, which will take place in Itte-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4, thus missing the opportunity to defend his javelin title.
