Neer Dosa Recipe: A Light and Healthy Breakfast Loved by Katrina Kaif

Many people aiming to lose weight believe they must eat only boiled and unappetizing food. However, if you want to achieve a toned and slender figure like Bollywood star Katrina Kaif, you absolutely do not have to sacrifice taste. Katrina prefers to include nutritious and easily digestible food in her diet. During one of her shows, she mentioned several healthy South Indian dishes, among which is Neer Dosa.

This traditional breakfast from the coastal regions of Karnataka is prepared without the use of oil or ghee and is completely gluten-free. Neer Dosa, which has a cotton-like texture, is very easy to digest and helps keep the body active throughout the day, aiding in weight control. Below is a simple instruction on how to prepare it.

Ingredients

The following components are needed for preparation: raw rice (Sona Masuri or any other dosa rice) — 1 cup (soaked in water for 4-5 hours); freshly grated coconut — 1/2 cup; water — 2 to 2.5 cups (to create a liquid batter); salt — to taste.

Step-by-step cooking method

First, grind the rice and coconut. Drain the water from the soaked rice. Then, place the rice, grated coconut, and a little water into a food processor to obtain a very fine and smooth paste.

Next, transfer this paste to a large bowl. Add salt to taste and about 2 cups of water. It is important that the consistency of this solution is completely watery, similar to buttermilk (chaach). If the batter is too thick, the Neer Dosa will not be net-like or soft.

Heat the pan over high heat. It is crucial for Neer Dosa that the pan is very hot. No oil is required on the pan.

Take a small amount of the liquid batter in a ladle or small cup and spread it on the pan, starting from the edge and moving towards the center, similar to spreading batter for rava dosa. As soon as the batter hits the hot surface, a beautiful net will start forming on the pan.

Cover the pan with a lid and cook for 40–50 seconds over high or medium heat. Do not flip it. When the edges of the dosa start to lift off the pan on their own, and the top layer becomes dry, gently roll it with your hands and transfer it to a plate.

The finished, soft, and low-fat Neer Dosa is ready! It should be served hot, as Katrina likes, with fresh coconut chutney or sambar.
