The Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus discussed the further development of cooperation between Belarus and Uzbekistan, as well as the implementation of joint projects. The discussion took place during a meeting with the Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Belarus, Nuriddin Mamajonov, according to the press service of the Council of the Republic of Belarus.
The Chairman of the Council of the Republic, Natalya Kochanova, noted the friendly and actively developing nature of relations between the two states in various spheres. According to her, Belarus and Uzbekistan interact on international platforms and support each other.
Kochanova named the economy, education, healthcare, youth, and historical policy as key areas of interaction. She also recalled that during the visit of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Belarus on July 8–9, a declaration agreement on strategic partnership was signed.
One of the main tasks of bilateral relations remains increasing mutual trade to 2 billion US dollars by 2030. Kochanova emphasized the need to fulfill existing agreements and achieve the set goal.
Prospects for trade cooperation
The Uzbek ambassador stated that relations between the countries are at a high level and have significant potential for further growth. Nuriddin Mamajonov focused on trade and economic cooperation as a priority direction.
According to him, the parties expect to reach the target turnover volume earlier than planned. The ambassador expressed confidence that the threshold of 2 billion US dollars could be reached within a year and a half.
Interregional interaction and forums
Special attention was paid to interregional interaction. Mamajonov reported that schedules for visits by regional leaders of both countries have been approved. It is planned that by the end of October, almost all regions of Uzbekistan will visit Belarus to discuss new initiatives, including the development of industrial cooperation.
During the meeting, the possibility of holding a Belarusian-Uzbek parliamentary forum was also discussed, which is scheduled for September 29–30 in Khiva. In addition, participants reviewed projects implemented with the participation of enterprises from both countries in the Belarusian regions, particularly in the Vitebsk and Gomel regions.
The parties discussed virtually all major areas of bilateral cooperation and expressed interest in further expanding interaction. In Mamajonov's opinion, this meeting should give a new impetus to the development of ties between Belarus and Uzbekistan.
