Uzbekistan and Singapore Begin Free Trade Negotiations

The Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan announced an agreement between Uzbekistan and Singapore to begin negotiations on establishing a free trade regime.

The relevant document was signed on August 28, 2026, during the visit of Singapore's Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong to Uzbekistan. The Uzbek Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade, Laziz Kudratov, participated in the negotiations. The goal of launching these talks is to expand bilateral trade and improve market access for goods between the two countries.

Agreements were also reached with the Singapore Cooperation Enterprise during the ceremony regarding joint work on developing special economic zones, utilizing Singapore's experience in this field.

A separate agreement concerning the food industry was signed with the participation of international corporations Wilmar International and Indorama. This project envisages the creation of facilities for the production and processing of vegetable oil in the Tashkent region, followed by a plan to develop the production of feed for livestock and poultry to form integrated supply chains in agriculture and food production.

The signing of all documents took place on August 28, 2026, as part of the bilateral program of Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong's visit.

Singapore Conventions Week 2026 is an international event held in Singapore that focuses on best practices in arbitration, mediation, and international commercial disputes. Participants also study the application of artificial intelligence and legal technologies in resolving disagreements.

During the meeting, representatives of both sides discussed exchanging experience on turning intellectual property into an economic asset and its commercialization. Cooperation in digitizing patent expertise will be a separate area of interaction.

The parties also agreed to exchange knowledge on using mediation to settle intellectual property-related disputes. This mechanism is viewed as part of the further development of the partnership between the relevant bodies of the two countries.

Another outcome of the negotiations was the decision to organize training sessions involving Singaporean specialists. These sessions are intended to improve the qualifications of Uzbek professionals in the fields of intellectual property commercialization and startup acceleration.

The Uzbek delegation is participating in the Singapore Conventions Week 2026 under the leadership of Minister of Justice Akbar Tashkulov. Within this international week, the parties are also discussing the use of modern legal tools and technologies for dispute resolution. Cooperation with IPOS involves implementing international experience into national practice, developing approaches to intellectual property commercialization, and improving dispute resolution mechanisms.

Uzbekistan and South Korea Hold Forum to Expand Bilateral Trade

On August 24, 2026, Uzbekistan and South Korea held a joint business forum and B2B meetings aimed at increasing bilateral trade and economic cooperation in Tashkent.

The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan and the Korean Importers Association (KOIMA). Participants included Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade Ilzat Kasimov, KOIMA Chairman Yoon Yong Mi, the Korean Embassy in Uzbekistan Ambassador Won Do Young, and about one hundred company representatives from both countries.

Bilateral trade turnover between Uzbekistan and South Korea reached approximately 2 billion US dollars in 2025. The total volume of foreign direct investment from South Korea into Uzbekistan exceeded 8 billion US dollars, with over 600 enterprises with South Korean capital currently operating in the country.

Discussions focused on strengthening trade and economic ties, as well as promoting the increase of Uzbek product exports to the South Korean market. Participants also assessed new business opportunities and potential joint projects in key sectors such as agriculture, industrial production, energy, logistics, and telecommunications.

The B2B sessions allowed for direct negotiations between businesses to establish concrete frameworks for cooperation in target industries.
