The Magnum Predators team from Chatsworth demonstrated mastery in volleyball throughout the weekend, going undefeated through the entire tournament to win the Aqua Darshan Port Shepstone Volleyball Association title.
The tournament was held in Port Shepstone, known as a vibrant center of South African volleyball, celebrated for its passionate audience and competitive local league. The tournament gathered a large number of elite teams, but the Predators dominated throughout the competition, not losing a single set.
The team from Chatsworth started strongly in the group stage, securing decisive victories with scores of 2-0 against UKZN Academy, Sideout Cobras, and Vortex Challengers. Maintaining momentum into the playoffs, Predators beat Vortex Seniors 2-0 in the semi-finals, and then defeated Sideout Cobras 2-0 in the final, ensuring a convincing victory in the tournament.
This victory in Port Shepstone is a continuation of the recent success of the Chatsworth team, which recently won the Tongaat Volleyball Association 50th Anniversary Tournament in Tongaat. Winning two consecutive regional titles underscores the momentum and stability of the squad as they continue to participate in the local league.
The team's dominance was further confirmed by sweeping the individual awards. Nigel Jagdeo was named best defender, Kevins Mugovera won best blocker, Reolan Ramdin received the best attacker award, and Jonas Motobi was recognized as the match player. Team captain Kevin Naidu rounded off this list of awards by receiving the best setter prize.
This flawless run provides ideal preparation for the Predators ahead of the Volleyball South Africa Champions Cup—the country's premier club tournament—which will take place in Bloemfontein from September 21st to 26th. As two-time former champions, the Chatsworth team aims to reclaim the coveted national trophy.
Team captain Kevin Naidu stated: 'The victory in Port Shepstone has been a huge boost for the team, especially considering how lively and competitive the volleyball scene is there.' He added that going through the tournament without losing a single set demonstrates the discipline and chemistry they have built. 'The individual awards are fantastic, but the real moment was seeing how well we work as a unit.'
As the team's focus now shifts to the national stage in Free State, Naidu emphasized that the team is ready for the ultimate test. 'The Champions Cup is the pinnacle of club volleyball in South Africa. Having won it twice before, we know the required standards,' Naidu noted. He concluded: 'Bloemfontein will bring strong pressure, but this victory proves that we are peaking at the right time. We are heading to the tournament with one goal—to bring this trophy home to Chatsworth.'
