The current price for farm milk in Mumbai was 93 rupees per liter, but after the increase, it will reach 102 rupees per liter.
Milk producers stated that the new tariffs will come into effect on September 1, 2026, and remain valid until February 28, 2027. They attributed the decision to raise prices to the constant increase in livestock costs, as well as a sharp rise in feed and fodder expenses for animals.
According to producers, the costs of maintaining dairy farms have significantly increased in recent months, making it impossible to continue selling milk at the current rate of 93 rupees per liter. Prices for various types of feed, including grain, have risen by up to 25 percent. The increase in fodder and bran costs has also raised the overall cost of milk production. Producers emphasized that the price change became extremely necessary due to rising production costs.
The 9 rupee per liter price increase will directly impact household budgets, especially those dependent on farm milk for daily consumption. Since this increase happens right before the festive season, it will be an added strain on Mumbai residents who are already facing rising prices. Starting September 1st, consumers in Mumbai will have to pay 102 rupees per liter for farm milk instead of the previous 93 rupees per liter.
