The choice of the best place for a honeymoon depends on each person's budget and preferences, but New Zealand is considered one of the most beautiful countries in the world and an excellent destination for newlyweds. The mountains, clean roads, fresh air, and small number of tourists in this country can give the new couple unforgettable experiences, helping to make the start of their life together special.
The main problem when traveling to an expensive country like New Zealand is the budget. Many might give up the trip upon hearing about the cost of a 13-day journey. However, one Indian couple managed to spend their honeymoon in New Zealand for 13 days for only 5.93 lakh rupees thanks to careful planning.
The couple shared the details of their trip on the Reddit platform. Initially, they expected expenses to be over 8 lakh rupees, and their initial budget was set at 7 lakh rupees. Thanks to a well-thought-out approach and some sensible decisions, the total expenditure was reduced to 5.93 lakh rupees.
Interestingly, the couple emphasized that they did not sacrifice the quality of the experience to save money. They used private Airbnb services and traveled by rented car. Furthermore, they visited places and engaged in activities such as Milford Sound, Waitomo Glowworm caves, skydiving, and Rotorua.
According to the couple, 2.11 lakh rupees were spent on international flights for two. Domestic flights in New Zealand cost approximately 13 thousand rupees. Visas cost 30 thousand rupees, accommodation cost 87 thousand rupees, and car rental and fuel cost 94 thousand rupees.
Local entertainment accounted for the largest share of expenses, costing about 1.19 lakh rupees. Food cost 32 thousand rupees, and other necessities cost approximately 7.4 thousand rupees.
During the 13-day trip, the couple explored both the North and South Islands of New Zealand. They visited locations such as Auckland, Waitomo, Cathedral Cove, Lake Taupo, and Queenstown.
The couple noted that there is no single magic way to reduce the budget. They planned flights, accommodation, and transportation in advance, and also saved money by preparing food themselves at times.
To expedite the visa application, instead of pre-booking plane tickets, they provided a detailed travel plan and a cover letter. According to them, the visa was obtained within five working days.
The couple also brought macaroni, snacks, and ready-to-eat food from India. Upon arrival in New Zealand, these items were properly declared and cleared customs in about five minutes.
This couple's planning gained widespread recognition on social media. People note that the dream of an expensive international trip is quite achievable with proper planning and cost control.
