Operational activity in the Strait of Hormuz remains approximately 90 percent below pre-conflict levels, as carriers increasingly opt for the northern route, according to the organization UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO).
During the reporting seven-day period ending August 28, the agency recorded 101 outbound and 103 inbound full transits. In a report published on August 28, UKMTO noted that vessel movement remained 'significantly reduced,' despite a brief recovery at the end of June.
The organization indicated that following attacks, several vessels canceled planned passages or changed course to the north. The southern Omani route is an especially dangerous section, as 16 out of 18 projectile incidents were registered there from July 6 to the present, according to UKMTO. Overall, 23 projectile incidents have been recorded since that date, resulting in damage to hulls, engine rooms, and ship structures.
Tanker transport accounts for 45 percent of total movements through the strait, but volumes remain low. UKMTO emphasized that the maritime threat remains high, with the Joint Maritime Information Centre assessing the risk in the Strait of Hormuz as serious.
