Chief Justice Surya Kant addressed Commonwealth nations on Friday, noting the unfairness of a situation where industrialized states, having spent two centuries implementing clean energy, demand that countries undergoing industrialization switch to renewable energy sources within a few decades.
Speaking at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, Surya Kant emphasized that countries just beginning to industrialize face the requirement to rapidly transition to renewable energy and are often criticized if they cannot do so quickly enough.
The Judge noted that the main task is to reconcile the need for an urgent transition to clean energy with the principles of fairness and common responsibility that should underpin this process.
