Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that the country's gross domestic product (GDP) will reach the mark of $300 billion by 2030. Furthermore, he noted that over the coming decade, the country will attract more than $450 billion in foreign investment. These statements were made during a ceremony marking the 35th anniversary of the Republic of Uzbekistan's state sovereignty.
Mirziyoyev mentioned that three years ago, the goal was set to increase the GDP to $160 billion by 2030, but this indicator will be exceeded this current year. As a result, Uzbekistan will enter the group of upper-middle-income countries.
The President also drew attention to the significant growth in annual foreign investment in the economy, which has increased from $2–3 billion to $40–50 billion. Thanks to these changes, Uzbekistan's position in the Index of Economic Freedom improved by 80 points, and the country entered the category of moderately free economies.
Separately, Mirziyoyev emphasized efforts to reduce poverty levels. He reported that thanks to the 'Mahallabai' system, aimed at increasing the income and employment of needy families, the poverty rate has decreased from 35% in 2017 to 4%.
Looking ahead to the next decade, the president announced plans to implement a national program aimed at transitioning the economy to a model based on high technology and high labor productivity. This program envisages the creation of two million high-paying jobs in industry, with startups, venture financing, and artificial intelligence being priority areas.
According to the president's calculations, the measures taken will allow the GDP per capita to rise above $10,000 within the next decade. Mirziyoyev also noted that an ecosystem will be created to facilitate the transition of small businesses into the medium segment, and medium-sized enterprises into large companies and corporations.
