In Indian cuisine, pots are used daily for frying, preparing pori, and sautéing vegetables. Although cleaning the main part of the pot is easy, oil and smoke accumulate around the handle. Over time, this oil and dirt dry, forming a thick, black, sticky greasy layer that seems impossible to remove with ordinary detergent or a sponge.
If your pot handle has become black and sticky, there is no need to worry. A paste made from regular white toothpaste mixed with baking soda (or salt) is a reliable agent for removing stubborn grease. Thanks to the mild abrasive properties of toothpaste and the cleaning characteristics of baking soda, this persistent grime can be removed in just five minutes without much effort.
To begin, you need to prepare the ingredients: one tablespoon of baking soda (fine salt can be used instead), one tablespoon of white toothpaste, one teaspoon of dish soap or vinegar, as well as an old toothbrush or steel scrubber and hot water for wiping.
To start the process, mix one tablespoon of white toothpaste, one tablespoon of baking soda, and one tablespoon of dish soap or vinegar in a small bowl to form a thick cleaning paste. Then, apply this paste thickly onto the black and sticky pot handle and the areas around the attachment. After application, leave the pot for ten minutes; the combination of toothpaste and baking soda will help loosen the hardened grease film.
After ten minutes, wet an old toothbrush or steel scrubber with a little water and begin scrubbing the accumulated dirt on the handle. You will see the black and sticky residue easily flake off. Areas where screws or joints are located should be thoroughly cleaned using the bristles of the toothbrush. Finish the procedure by rinsing the pot with hot water or wiping the handle with a damp cloth soaked in hot water. The pot handle will shine like new, without much effort.
