Apple has implemented a price adjustment for its Apple TV subscription in Brazil. The monthly cost of the service, which was R$ 29.90, has been raised to R$ 34.90 starting this Friday, August 28th, representing a 17% increase. Additionally, the annual option for Apple TV has had its price adjusted from R$ 220 to R$ 279 annually, corresponding to an increase of about 27%.
This price increase is not limited to Brazil, also affecting other markets, such as the United States. In the US, the monthly fee for the streaming service rose from US$ 12.99 to US$ 14.99 (which is equivalent to approximately R$ 82 in direct conversion), as reported by 9to5Mac. For American consumers who choose the annual payment, the price went from US$ 99 to US$ 119 (approximately R$ 650).
The individual plan for Apple One has also seen an increase, rising from R$ 42.90 to R$ 47.90 monthly, just one month after another adjustment that affected other categories of Apple One and coincided with the increase in Apple Music. In the United States, this same modality saw an increment from US$ 19.95 to US$ 21.95 per month (about R$ 120).
The Apple One Individual package includes the Apple TV subscription, the Apple Music streaming service, the Apple Arcade game catalog, and offers increased iCloud storage capacity.
According to the company itself, users who already have active subscriptions in Brazil and abroad will not be immediately charged the new rates. Apple announced that all current customers will receive an email notification about 30 days before the next invoice is processed with the revised price.
This cost increase is linked to the tech giant's strategy to expand its catalog, including live sports broadcasts and large-scale projects. Last year, in October, Apple signed an exclusive agreement to broadcast Formula 1 races in the United States, integrating all stages into the catalog without generating extra costs for subscribers.
Furthermore, at the beginning of this year, the company included full coverage of the Major League Soccer (MLS) directly in the standard Apple TV plan. Before that, fans had to purchase the separate MLS Season Pass to watch the football league games. The addition of these two major sporting tournaments to the basic subscription resulted in a considerable increase in the service's operating expenses.
