Square Enix showcased a new trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation during the Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live event. This title represents the third and final installment of the trilogy that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake, promising to elevate the scale of Cloud's and his companions' journey once again.
Presentation of new scenes and enemies
Director Naoki Hamaguchi participated in the closing of the presentation to reveal new sequences from the RPG. These scenes include the appearance of some of the immense adversaries known as Weapons and demonstrations of new exploration features of the game's universe.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for release in Spring 2027 in the Northern Hemisphere, covering the period between March and June. The game will be released simultaneously on various platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2.
One of the central points highlighted in the trailer are the Weapons, colossal beings that manifest in distinct regions of the planet. The new footage shows Cloud and his allies dealing with threats on a much larger dimension. Among the creatures presented are the Ruby Weapon, the Emerald Weapon, and the Ultra Weapon.
In addition to the size of the enemies, the scenes emphasize that confrontations with these entities will play a crucial role in the narrative of this trilogy's final chapter.
Details about game exploration
The trailer also provided more information about exploration in Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Following the expansion of playable areas introduced in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, the third game will maintain a focus on vast open landscapes. However, this time, characters will have renewed methods for traversing the map.
Among the travel options shown are aircraft and gliders, which allows for world exploration through the sky. The ability to travel by air can substantially alter how players move through different zones, especially considering the visual scale presented in the new footage.
Another relevant novelty is the synchronized launch of the game on multiple platforms, including the Nintendo Switch 2. The version for the Nintendo console generates particular interest due to the technical requirements of the project; its predecessor showed performance issues on this platform, raising expectations about how Square Enix will adapt the trilogy's conclusion for the hardware.
As of now, graphical settings or performance targets for each version have not been specified. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled for Spring 2027 in the Northern Hemisphere, concluding the saga started with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Square Enix has not yet announced an exact date within this range.
With the inclusion of giant Weapons, aerial exploration, and an even larger open world, the new trailer signals that the studio plans to finalize the reimagining of Final Fantasy VII, intensifying the grandeur of the adventure once again.
