Anaya Bangad, who is preparing for her return to the field, strongly reacted to statements made by South African all-rounder Marjaine Kep. Kep had previously expressed strong disagreement with Cricket Australia's (CA) decision to allow Anaya to return to women's cricket.
Anaya, who transitioned from male to female, stated that those who question this matter should first obtain complete information on the topic. Responding to Kep's comments in an interview with PTI, Anaya detailed the process of obtaining her qualification.
When asked about Marjaine Kep's remarks, Anaya directly stated that opponents should try to understand the issue. She emphasized: 'Those who want to oppose this should study this topic themselves. I have provided all the necessary information that I am not gaining any unfair advantage and I follow Cricket Australia's guidelines.' Anaya added that if someone's personal opinion remains different, they should study more information.
After approval from Cricket Australia, Anaya's path back to cricket was opened, but she has not yet managed to join a professional team directly. Currently, she can play in Premier Cricket in any state or region of Australia. For this, she is in contact with some local clubs and is preparing to choose a suitable team soon. Her main goal is to enter the Women's Big Bash League (WBBL), but for this, she must first establish herself in club cricket.
Speaking about her journey, Anaya Bangad mentioned that she spent a long time in survival mode. Now, she is gradually reaching a state where she can understand the events that happened during that period and recover her life. She noted that the further journey will begin with small steps.
Anaya Bangad also clarified that Cricket Australia's decision was not a routine or unofficial process. The council conducted a thorough review of many aspects. According to her, this included her medical and surgical history, hormone and testosterone reports, sporting past, match videos, and scientific work related to athletic performance at the Manchester Metropolitan University Sports Institute. Anaya reported that her last blood test in July showed a total testosterone level of 0.6 nanomoles per liter.
Anaya's right to return to elite cricket depends on the conditions of the policy coming into effect in March 2027. Before that time, she can compete in community or Premier Cricket. This means that Cricket Australia's approval cannot be considered a WBBL contract or a team selection. Anaya still needs to build physical fitness, prove herself in club cricket, and then demonstrate her competence to reach a higher level.
