Yandex Maps has implemented a new safety feature called 'Caution, School' in Tashkent. This feature is designed to warn drivers about approaching educational institutions before the start of the new academic year, which is scheduled for September 2, 2026.
The tool displays 'Caution, Children' signs on routes passing near schools on the map. Additionally, the application issues a voice warning, prompting drivers to reduce speed and pay closer attention to children if the system detects speeding in these designated zones.
In addition to the alert function for drivers, the navigation service advised users to check traffic conditions on the morning of September 2, 2026, to compare travel options by private transport, public transport, or on foot. The application provides real-time tracking and estimated arrival times for buses, as well as a 'Green Route' option for pedestrians that optimizes walking paths considering tree coverage and shade.
The company also reported an increase in platform usage during the start of the academic semester. It was noted that search queries in the 'Science and Education' category in Uzbekistan increased by 36.2% on the first day of school in 2025 compared to other days in September.
During the same single day in 2025, searches for schools in Tashkent increased by almost 75%. Meanwhile, searches for private schools rose by almost 87%, lyceum institutions by 61%, and higher education institutions by more than 40%. There was also an increase in searches for copying centers and stationery stores by 59.2% and 14.3%, respectively.
