Due to the rise in suspected cases of dengue in Manipur amid seasonal changes, as well as the appearance of typhoid cases, the administration has adopted heightened precautionary measures due to concerns over the Hand, Foot, and Mouth Disease (HFMD) virus among children. Officials assured the public that there is no need to panic. The Health Department has intensified monitoring for timely diagnosis and treatment of diseases and has begun conducting awareness campaigns in schools and villages.
For a comprehensive overview of the situation, Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar convened an emergency meeting at the Tuibong Secretariat. Employees from the health and education departments, as well as doctors, participated in this meeting. The current status of the diseases, prevention measures, and hospital readiness were discussed.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. P. Henhoneng Mate reported that ten teams from government medical centers are visiting schools. These teams inform students, teachers, and staff about the symptoms of dengue and HFMD and provide information on preventive methods. Special attention is being paid to children regarding HFMD.
According to officials, the diseases have the greatest impact on young children (under 5 years old), who may exhibit signs such as fever, rash, and blisters on the skin. Affected children are receiving treatment based on their symptoms, and currently, no reports of deaths have been received.
To curb the spread of dengue, the administration issued an order to eliminate mosquito breeding sites within a 50–100 meter radius of residential houses. The state government dispatched insecticides and fumigation machines to Churachandpur. Work on insecticide spraying and area cleanup has been activated in sensitive areas. Hospital administrations stated that they are ready to provide patient treatment according to their health condition.
Medical Superintendent Dr. Sania Monica urged people to drink enough water, rest, and consult a doctor if they have a persistent fever or severe symptoms. She also strongly recommended avoiding taking medication, especially antibiotics, without consulting a doctor.
Concurrently, a check was conducted on the tuberculosis eradication campaign in the district. Officials reported that out of a total target of 142,136 people, 22,732 individuals were tested. Of the 110,008 people in the high-risk group, 21,749 underwent examination. In total, 4,138 people have been tested for tuberculosis so far, with 641 confirmed cases.
Officials emphasized the need to raise awareness about tuberculosis through schools, youth organizations, and NCC, as well as increase the number of checks. The Deputy Commissioner instructed the Health Department to create a special cell with a hotline and an expert team. Currently, the administration's main goal is to detect diseases before they spread to take timely preventive measures.
