The Grand Slam judo tournament began on August 28 in the Swiss city of Lausanne. The Uzbekistan team will participate in the competition, fielding 21 athletes—10 men and 11 women. The tournament is scheduled until August 30, and over 500 judoka from 77 countries will compete on the tatami.
On the first day of the competition, Samariddin Kuchkorov and Bahrom Baturov from Uzbekistan will compete in the under 60 kilograms weight category. Abdurakhim Nutfullayev and Azizbek Ortikov are also registered in this category, competing up to 66 kilograms.
Among the female participants, Laziza Khaidarova and Ulbusin Khakimova are vying for medals in the under 48 kilograms category. In the under 52 kilograms category, Sita Kadamboyeva and Sodiya Rafqatova will compete for medals.
In subsequent days, other members of the national team will take to the tatami, including Muzaffarbek Turaboyev, Ernazar Sarsenbayev, Umida Nigmatova, and Irisxon Kurbanboeva, who will represent the country in various weight categories.
It should be noted that previously, Uzbek judoka have achieved success on the international stage, winning one gold and three bronze medals on the first day of the World Junior Championship held in Ecuador.
