Participants of the Kostyonki Expedition of the Institute of History of Material Culture of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported a significant find made during the excavation of the oldest cultural layer of the archaeological site Kostyonki-14.
During the summer, researchers discovered about forty ornaments made from river mollusk shells, estimated to be approximately 41.5–41 thousand years old. However, the most valuable artifact was an ornament made by Cro-Magnons from a shell presumably brought from the Black Sea.
Archaeologists believe that this shell was either brought by the Cro-Magnons with them to the Podunye region or obtained through exchange with neighboring tribes. Information about the find was disclosed by the archaeologists through their Telegram channel 'Kostyonki Kryu.'
