Due to the rising prices of onions in Delhi, the government has begun taking steps to assist the public. A special train, the 'Kanda Express,' dispatched from Nashik, delivered 456 metric tons of onions to Delhi. The government's objective is to stabilize market prices for this product.
Upon arrival, the onions will be distributed to nine main central warehouses. Subsequently, mobile vans will be deployed in 40 designated locations across Delhi. Through these vans, residents will be offered onions at a price of 35 rupees per kilogram.
This planned support measure is not limited to Delhi. A portion of this consignment will also be sent to certain designated districts in the states of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, which should alleviate the situation for residents in these regions facing price increases.
The Delhi administration is continuously monitoring the availability and prices of onions. Minister Reha Gupta held a meeting to review the stock of onions and sugar. According to the government, there is an adequate supply of both essential commodities in Delhi, and no shortage is currently observed.
According to the Minister's Secretariat, if necessary, onions and sugar will be procured from the central agency NAFED, after which they will be distributed to various areas of Delhi.
The sale of these essential products will be conducted at prices set by NAFED. The Delhi government will cover all associated costs, including transportation expenses. The government states that its task is to provide the population with necessary goods at a fair price. Cabinet Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa was also present at the meeting. The government emphasized that the market situation is under constant control, and further measures will be taken if necessary.
