Uzbekistan and South Africa Discuss Expansion of Bilateral Trade and Economic Ties

The Minister of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan, Laziz Kudratov, held a video conference with the Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition Parks of South Africa, Tau. The goal of the meeting was to discuss deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, investment, and industry, according to data from the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of Uzbekistan.

Preparation for a Business Mission

The main subject of discussion was the preparation of an upcoming business mission of Uzbek companies to South Africa. It is planned that around 50 enterprises from Uzbekistan will visit Johannesburg in the autumn of 2026 to participate in targeted 'business-to-business' meetings with representatives of South African businesses.

In addition, the ministers studied the possibilities of implementing joint projects in priority sectors. Special attention was paid to the creation of an Intergovernmental Commission, which should become a key instrument for strengthening bilateral interaction.

Agreements and Next Steps

During the negotiations, officials also considered issues of developing bilateral agreements on investment protection and trade cooperation. Both sides discussed the possibility of starting negotiations to conclude a Preferential Trade Agreement. At the end of the discussions, Uzbekistan and South Africa agreed to continue developing joint initiatives and forming a portfolio of potential projects.

Uzbekistan and South Korea Hold Forum to Expand Bilateral Trade

On August 24, 2026, Uzbekistan and South Korea held a joint business forum and B2B meetings aimed at increasing bilateral trade and economic cooperation in Tashkent.

Business Meeting in Tashkent

The event was jointly organized by the Ministry of Investment, Industry, and Trade of Uzbekistan and the Korean Importers Association (KOIMA). Participants included Deputy Minister of Investment, Industry, and Trade Ilzat Kasimov, KOIMA Chairman Yoon Yong Mi, the Korean Embassy in Uzbekistan Ambassador Won Do Young, and about one hundred company representatives from both countries.

Bilateral trade turnover between Uzbekistan and South Korea reached approximately 2 billion US dollars in 2025. The total volume of foreign direct investment from South Korea into Uzbekistan exceeded 8 billion US dollars, with over 600 enterprises with South Korean capital currently operating in the country.

Discussions focused on strengthening trade and economic ties, as well as promoting the increase of Uzbek product exports to the South Korean market. Participants also assessed new business opportunities and potential joint projects in key sectors such as agriculture, industrial production, energy, logistics, and telecommunications.

The B2B sessions allowed for direct negotiations between businesses to establish concrete frameworks for cooperation in target industries.

Mirziyoyev and Tokayev Discuss Expansion of Bilateral Ties Between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan

The President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, held a phone conversation with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, during which the development of bilateral relations was discussed, according to the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

At the beginning of the conversation, Mirziyoyev congratulated his Kazakh counterpart on the successful holding of the first elections to the unicameral Kuruultai in the country. He expressed confidence that the new Kuruultai will become a significant element in promoting reforms in Kazakhstan, ensuring effective legislative support for large-scale transformations, and giving a fresh impetus to the sustainable development of the state.

During the talks, the heads of state noted the dynamic development of Uzbek-Kazakh relations, based on strategic partnership and union. Special attention was paid to further expanding bilateral trade, increasing industrial cooperation, and implementing joint investment projects.

The leaders also discussed the development of transport and logistics links and the creation of new opportunities to activate business contacts between the regions of both countries. Concluding the conversation, Mirziyoyev and Tokayev exchanged views on current regional and international issues.

Uzbekistan and Algeria Discuss Expansion of Bilateral Ties in Tashkent

A meeting of representatives from Uzbekistan and Algeria took place in Tashkent on August 21, where possibilities for strengthening bilateral relations in political, trade, economic, and cultural spheres were discussed.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bahromjon Aloev, met with the Ambassador of Algeria to Uzbekistan, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Representative Jamila Ashour.

The sides discussed prospects for further development of cooperation in political, trade, economic, as well as cultural and humanitarian areas. Special attention was paid to deepening interaction between the two states within international organizations.

In addition, during the meeting, opinions were exchanged regarding upcoming events and current issues on the regional agenda.
