Indian ghee is increasingly gaining recognition among world-renowned dairy products. The platform TasteAtlas, which publishes food product rankings, released a list of the best and most famous oils in the world, into which two products from India were included.
The rating included GirOrganic’s A2 Gir Cow Ghee and Amul’s Pure Ghee, which ranked sixth. TasteAtlas shared this ranking on social media. According to the platform, the list considered aspects such as quality, production method, unique characteristics, history, and cultural significance of any oil or ghee.
GirOrganic’s A2 Gir Cow Ghee from India was also included in this list. This product is made from the milk of Gir cows and is sold on the market as traditionally prepared ghee. The second Indian product is Amul’s Pure Ghee. Amul is a well-known dairy brand in India, and its ghee has been used across the country for a long time. Amul's aromatic and grainy ghee is associated with the characteristics of traditional Indian ghee.
According to TasteAtlas, the list included products considered the best in terms of quality, craftsmanship, and uniqueness. Furthermore, for 'iconic', meaning famous products, their history, global recognition, and cultural significance were considered. In its social media post, TasteAtlas indicated that some products are simply excellent, while others are excellent and simultaneously acquire their special identity. It is based on this that the platform presented the list of the best and most famous oils in the world.
The TasteAtlas list also features oils from Australia, such as Pepe Saya’s Salted Cultures Butter and Western Star’s Original Salted Butter. From Belgium are L&L Plaquette’s Beurre Fleur de Sel and Carlsbourg’s Beurre d’Ardenne AOP Doux. Also included in the list are Gammeldags Kærnet Smør from Aabybro Mejeri in Denmark and Slightly Salted Butter from Lurpak.
Oils from France and England are also featured in the list: Fen Farm Dairy’s Bungay Butter and Country Life’s Unsalted Butter from England. France is represented by Maison Bordier’s Le Beurre Bordier Salé 4% and Échiré’s Beurre d’Échiré AOP Charentes-Poitou Demi-Sel. Ireland, Italy, and New Zealand are also represented in the ranking. Among them are Saltrock Dairy’s Farmhouse Cultured Butter with Wexford Sea Salt and Kerrygold’s Pure Irish Salted Butter from Ireland; Beppino Occelli’s Burro Occelli and Prealpi’s Burro Prealpi Classico from Italy; as well as Lewis Road Creamery’s Premium Sea Salt Crystals Butter and Anchor Butter from New Zealand.
The list also includes products from Norway, Spain, and the USA. From Norway are Rørosmeieriet’s Økologisk Røros Smør 2% Havsalt and Tine’s Tine Meierismør. Spanish entries include Airas Moniz’s Mantequilla Chantada and Cadí’s Mantega Cadí DOP. American representatives are Animal Farm Creamery’s Cultured Butter and Land O’Lakes’ Salted Butter.
In India, ghee is not just a food product but an integral part of traditional cuisine. It is used both in cooking and in many traditional dishes. Therefore, the inclusion of two Indian ghee products in the global ranking of famous oils is considered an important step towards increasing the global recognition of Indian dairy products.
