Due to ongoing tensions in the Middle East and disputes between the US and Iran surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, the government has temporarily suspended the issuance of new domestic gas cylinder connections nationwide. Oil companies are also not issuing new connections, prioritizing the servicing of existing customers.
Furthermore, other restrictions concerning gas connections are in place, forcing people to wait for extended periods. According to oil companies, new connections for 14.2-kilogram domestic cylinders have not been issued since March 2026. The Ministry of Petroleum provided an official response regarding this matter.
The Central Ministry of Petroleum announced on social media that the process of issuing new LPG connections was temporarily halted due to the current geopolitical situation. Currently, the main focus of LPG distributors is on the timely delivery of refills to existing customers so that users with established connections do not face gas shortages.
The government emphasizes that the ban on LPG connections is not permanent. The process of resuming the issuance of new connections may begin after the normalization of the situation in the Middle East and the stabilization of LPG supplies.
At present, oil companies are concentrating on meeting the needs of old customers rather than new ones. Existing users are being supplied with refills. Simultaneously, the process of reactivating closed connections is beginning. Work is also actively underway to complete the KYC procedure for users. Additionally, restrictions have been introduced on the purchase of counterfeit LPG, and limits have been placed on commercial gas procurement.
The government issued a directive stating that residents of areas already connected to PNG are obliged to use the PNG connection. Those who have both PNG and LPG connections are instructed to discontinue the LPG connection. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in the termination of their gas connection.
