On Thursday, China expressed disagreement with the United States' plan to introduce an additional 7.5% tariff on goods imported from China, calling the move an act of protectionism and unilateral action.
A representative from the Ministry of Commerce, Huang Lin, stated that the United States initiated Section 301 investigations into 16 economies, including China. The basis for these investigations was the accusation of 'overcapacity,' which, according to her, is an attempt to politicize trade and economic issues.
Huang added that China will closely monitor and comprehensively evaluate further steps by the US administration, and reserves the right to take all necessary measures.
Earlier, in July, China's Ministry of Commerce published a document titled 'China's Position on the So-called Overcapacity Issue.' This document clarified relevant facts and detailed China's policy regarding this matter.
The document emphasized that the rapid development of China's modern industries is driven by innovation, and the stable and healthy operation of Chinese manufacturing depends on the continuous deepening of reforms.
