In July of this year, SpaceX introduced the Starlink V5 kit, which incorporates a significantly lighter and more compact antenna compared to the previous model, the Starlink V4. At that time, there was no clarity regarding the timeline or the possibility of this new kit reaching the Brazilian market.
Recently, however, the new antenna was approved by Anatel, indicating that its introduction into the Brazilian market is near. Documentation obtained by Tecnoblog from Anatel identifies this new component as UTA-262. Although Starlink has not yet publicly disclosed this nomenclature for the new antenna, YouTuber Jesse Nowlin located the code 'UTA-262' on the back of the device when opening the Starlink V5 kit (visible starting at 6:20 in his video).
The images presented during the approval process correspond to photos released by SpaceX itself. The changes are noticeable in dimensions, as the antenna of the Starlink V5 kit is almost 50% smaller than that of the Starlink V4 kit. Furthermore, there has been a considerable reduction in weight, which should simplify both the transport and installation of the equipment.
The comparative table also shows that the power consumption of the new antenna has been reduced by practically half. Conversely, the maximum download speed on the Starlink V5 kit has dropped by 25 Mb/s (megabits per second), but this variation is considered minimal and unlikely to be perceived by end-users.
Although the exact timing of the new antenna's launch in Brazil remains uncertain, the completion of the Anatel approval represents a crucial step forward for it. Based on this, it is estimated that new availability may occur until 2026.
