Study shows that analyzing donor urine biomarkers increases the accuracy of kidney assessment for transplantation

American scientists conducted a study on the analysis of three-year results from paired kidney transplants. They found that using urine analysis of a deceased donor for three specific renal biomarkers significantly increases the accuracy in determining organ quality and predicting outcomes after transplantation.

The study examined biomarkers such as uromodulin, osteopontin, and glycoprotein YKL-40. The results were published in the scientific journal Journal of the American Society of Nephrology.
