The Governor of Jizzakh Region, Ulugbek Mustafayev, stated on August 25 that the region plans to attract investments totaling $2.7 billion by the end of 2026. The statement was made during the opening ceremony of new facilities, which was attended by the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
According to the governor, the structure of the Jizzakh region's economy has undergone significant changes over the past decade: it has transformed from a predominantly agricultural area into an industrially developed region. The automotive industry became the first major industrial sector, followed by the development of the energy sector.
Mustafayev noted that the enterprise inaugurated before the ceremony belongs to the electrical engineering industry. Furthermore, the region is preparing to begin producing solar panels and launching a combined-cycle gas power plant.
During the event, the governor spoke about a meeting with about 300 agricultural machinery operators held before the cotton harvest season. One participant, who worked as an excavator operator when Mirziyoyev served as the governor of Jizzakh Region, expressed gratitude to the president for his attention to local residents.
Mustafayev also emphasized the region's educational achievements. This year, 40% of graduates from Jizzakh schools enrolled in state higher education institutions. Including students admitted to private and other universities, the overall enrollment rate in the region is expected to reach 51–52%.
The governor attributed these results to increased attention to science and education, as well as the work of schools and kindergartens. He added that the youth of the region support the policy pursued by the president.
In turn, Mirziyoyev noted the scale of changes in the investment sector. When asked about the projected volume of investments, Mustafayev confirmed the target figure of $2.7 billion annually. Mirziyoyev recalled the past, remarking: 'I see the elders here. In the days when I worked [as governor of Jizzakh Region], we couldn't even earn two sums. Who would have believed back then that there would be over 2 billion in investments in Jizzakh?'
On August 25, on the eve of Uzbekistan's 35th anniversary of independence, 72 large industrial and service projects, as well as 91 social facility, were commissioned across the country. Mustafayev assured that regional authorities are ready to work 'day and night' to achieve the set goals and implement the course outlined by the president.
