A list of the highest-paid professions in Bangalore has overturned career perceptions. While software engineers spend days and nights coding and striving for higher salaries, the significant income of PG owners, homeowners, water tanker drivers, and brokers is being discussed.
Tech commentator Sakshi shared a list of the highest-paid professions in India on social media (X). This list demonstrates that one can earn a substantial income in Bangalore by catering to basic needs (housing and water), even without an IIT degree or coding skills.
PG owners lead this list. According to Sakshi's calculations, by accommodating three people in one room, one can charge between 10,000 and 15,000 rupees per person. Even if the owner pays rent of 40,000 rupees, after all expenses, they can easily save between 1 to 1.5 lakh rupees monthly. Due to the constant demand for affordable housing among youth moving to Bangalore, this market always remains in high demand.
Second place goes to tea and cigarette kiosk vendors near tech parks. Thousands of software engineers rely on these small stalls to recharge. These small traders can earn between 30,000 and 50,000 rupees monthly by selling cigarettes at 15 rupees instead of 5 rupees and offering tea and snacks, and they require no funding, MBA, or presentations.
Third place is occupied by established Bangalore homeowners. The formula is simple: purchase a 2BHK apartment worth 90 lakhs and rent it out for 50,000 rupees per month, continuously increasing the rent. There is no need to pass performance certifications or work overtime; money simply comes into the account every month.
Fourth place belongs to water tanker drivers. Utilizing the city's water scarcity, they make numerous trips daily, earning between 1,200 and 1,500 rupees per tanker. As the water crisis worsens, both their demand and earnings increase significantly.
Fifth place is held by brokers. They earn by renting out apartments, even those with dampness issues or located far from the metro, charging a full monthly rent as a commission. They receive commissions from both the tenant and the homeowner, profiting from this market competition.
The most interesting aspect of this list is that while PG owners, landowners, and tanker drivers are earning, IT engineers remain up until 2 AM solving DSA problems to secure better jobs or promotions.
People on social media also reacted to this list. One user wrote: 'Engineers chose the hardest path; they should have bought a tanker instead of learning to code.' Although this data is based only on speculation in a social media post, this humorous list revealed a bitter truth. In a fast-growing city like Bangalore, having suitable property is sometimes just as important as qualifications.
