Residents were surprised to see the finished pedestrian crossing (subway) early in the morning, as there was nothing in that spot late at night. It turned out that the railway achieved an incredible feat by building the subway in the Vastrapur area of Akhmadabad city in just a few hours.
During a special operation on August 25 and 26, the railway's engineering team successfully completed the construction of the complex pedestrian subway, setting a new record by finishing significantly earlier than planned. The Western Railway received permission to block traffic for 8 hours to construct this subway.
Digging the trench and installing the ready-made structure in such a short time presented a serious challenge. However, thanks to meticulous planning and the coordinated work of railway engineers and workers, the entire process was completed in only 7 hours and 15 minutes, which was 45 minutes ahead of the scheduled time, allowing the subway to be handed over to the public. This was a major success for the railway.
High-tech solutions and factory concrete structures were used in the implementation of this project. The subway construction was carried out in an extremely methodical manner. From the start of the traffic blockage, heavy machinery promptly conducted earthworks. To ensure the stability of the subway structure, a flat and solid base was prepared after excavating the soil.
Giant precast concrete blocks, delivered from the factory, were installed using cranes in precise locations. After mounting the subway frame, the area was backfilled with soil. Then, the railway track was re-laid, and all work was performed strictly according to regulations and with all safety precautions observed.
This historic achievement was realized under the direct guidance and supervision of the Manager of the Akhmadabad Railway Division (DRM), Ved Prakash, and Chief Administrative Officer Pradip Gupta. The presence and constant oversight from management boosted the morale of the entire team and allowed such a large-scale project to be completed ahead of schedule, without any safety violations.
It is worth noting that eight hours had initially been allocated for this work. Nevertheless, the work was completed in 7 hours and 15 minutes. Thus, both the upper railway track and the lower subway were ready before dawn. When residents of the Vastrapur area arrived there in the morning, they were astonished. Local residents highly appreciated the railway's work upon seeing the subway.
