Uzbek grandmaster Javokhir Sindarov is set to compete in the fourth iteration of the Tech Mahindra Global Chess League. This event is scheduled to occur from September 3 to September 13, 2026, in Bengaluru, India. At 20 years old, Sindarov will lead a team for the first time in the league's history, taking the top Icon board position for FYERS American Gambits.
In the preceding three seasons of the Global Chess League, Sindarov represented various teams, including UpGrad Mumba Masters, Triveni Continental Kings, and Ganges Grandmasters. For the forthcoming season, he will debut on the first board, which is designated for franchise leaders.
The American Gambits roster alongside the Uzbek player includes Daniil Dubov and Nihal Sarin on the men's boards, Bibisara Assaubayeva and Sarasadat Khadem on the women's boards, and Marc'Andria Maurizzi as the prodigy player. Srinath Narayanan has been appointed as the team's coach.

On the premier board, Sindarov may encounter several of the world's foremost grandmasters. Among his potential rivals are Magnus Carlsen, Alireza Firouzja, Ian Nepomniachtchi, Viswanathan Anand, and Maxime Vachier-Lagrave.
A potential contest against Carlsen is of particular interest to the Uzbek grandmaster. The Norwegian player is returning to the Global Chess League after missing the prior edition and will captain the Alpine APL Pipers. The Pipers' lineup also features Anish Giri, Vidit Gujrathi, Humpy Koneru, Divya Deshmukh, and Volodar Murzin.
The current league champions, Alpine Pipers, secured victory over Triveni Continental Kings in the 2025 season final. Nevertheless, the team composition has undergone substantial changes since last season, with Giri being the sole player retained from the championship squad.
Triveni Continental Kings, which claimed the first two titles of the Global Chess League in 2023 and 2024, will be managed by Firouzja in the new edition. Their team configuration also incorporates Wei Yi, Aravindh Chithambaram, Zhu Jiner, Alexandra Kosteniuk, and Pranav Venkatesh.
Ian Nepomniachtchi will occupy the top board for Ganges Grandmasters. His teammates consist of Levon Aronian, Leinier Dominguez, Polina Shuvalova, Stavroula Tsolakidou, and Leon Mendonca.
PBG Alaskan Knights will be led by the five-time world champion Anand. The roster for this team also includes Arjun Erigaisi, 15-year-old Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus, Kateryna Lagno, Nino Batsiashvili, and Abhimanyu Mishra.
UpGrad Mumba Masters will once again feature Vachier-Lagrave on the top board. The French grandmaster will collaborate with Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Vladimir Fedoseev, Carissa Yip, Harika Dronavalli, and Bardiya Daneshvar.

A total of 36 chess players from six different franchises will participate in the fourth season of the Global Chess League. Bengaluru will host the event for the first time, succeeding previous venues such as Dubai in 2023, London, and Mumbai.
The structure of the Global Chess League diverges from conventional individual tournaments. Each team, comprising six players, is composed of one Icon, two Superstar Men, two Superstar Women, and one Prodigy player. All six games within a team match are played concurrently.
Every franchise will engage in 10 matches during a double round-robin phase, playing each competitor twice, with the colors reversed in the second encounter. After the group stage concludes, the top two teams will proceed to the final, which is slated for September 13, 2026.
The scoring methodology also differs from standard team competitions. A win with the black pieces grants four game points, while a win with white earns three points, and a draw results in one point for both sides. The team that accumulates more total game points across the six boards secures three match points, whereas a draw awards one match point to each participating team.
For the fourth season, the time controls are established at 20 minutes per game, supplemented by a two-second increment applied per move beginning from the 40th move.
The total prize pool for the Global Chess League in 2026 amounts to US$1 million. The champion is entitled to US$250,000, the runner-up to US$125,000, the third-place team to receive US$75,000, and the fourth-place team to receive US$50,000. Furthermore, an extra US$450,000 will be distributed among all participants based on their game points, along with a US$50,000 bonus for the league victor.
Sindarov entered the tournament following a demanding competitive calendar. In recent months, his appearances included events in Goa, Mumbai, Doha, Wijk aan Zee, Cyprus, Warsaw, Bucharest, Hong Kong, Charlotte, Miami, and Saint Louis.
The chess player attributed his intense schedule to a desire to acquire greater experience against elite international competitors. He mentioned that he began competing at the top level only this year and intends to build self-assurance at high-stakes events before the World Chess Championship match.
During the previous Global Chess League season, Sindarov represented Ganges Grandmasters on the Superstar Men's board, finishing as the second highest scorer in the tournament, trailing Firouzja with 24 game points and seven wins.
After the Bengaluru tournament, Sindarov is scheduled to return to Uzbekistan, where Samarkand will host the World Chess Olympiad. His main individual engagement will be the World Chess Championship match against the reigning champion Gukesh Dommaraju.
Although Gukesh chose to bypass the Global Chess League and the Grand Chess Tour, Sindarov maintains his participation in major tournaments. The Uzbek grandmaster expects his opponent to be in peak condition for the title match.
