Volkswagen has introduced the completely redesigned second-generation compact crossover T-Roc, which combines expressive design, advanced technology, and versatility for daily use. This new model is now available for purchase in South Africa.
The T-Roc occupies a position between the Taigo and Tiguan models and is part of the Volkswagen T-SUV family, which also includes the T-Cross, Taigo, Tiguan, Tayron, and Touareg. The new vehicle is 122 mm longer than its predecessor, and the extended wheelbase by 28 mm has contributed to increased interior space and a more imposing exterior appearance.
The T-Roc model is offered in three variants: Life, R-Line, and R-Line Black Style. The Life configuration is equipped with 16-inch Bilbao wheels, LED headlights, black roof rails, parking assistance system, rear-view camera, 10.3-inch multimedia system, and Digital Cockpit, as well as 10-color interior lighting. The sportier R-Line option includes R-Line exterior and interior styling, IQ.Light matrix LED headlights, 18-inch Coventry wheels, and enhanced comfort seats. The flagship R-Line Black Style version features black mirror surrounds, decorative elements, roof rails, privacy glass, and black wheels.
The new T-Roc features a more sculpted design characterized by elongated proportions, a wider stance, and more pronounced rear haunches. At the front, the LED elements are integrated with a continuous light strip and an illuminated Volkswagen logo; higher trims are fitted with IQ.Light matrix LED headlights. The rear of the car has dual-section LED taillights connected by a continuous illuminated strip, and the top versions feature an illuminated Volkswagen logo.
The interior has been completely redesigned with a focus on the driver. It includes a new Digital Cockpit and multimedia systems available in 10.3 or 12.9-inch formats depending on the selected specification. The new 'Drive Experience Dial' rotary controller allows control over driving profiles and infotainment functions, while the multifunctional gear selector has an integrated OLED display. Cabin lighting is available in 10 colors for the Life and R-Line versions, whereas the R-Line Black Style offers 30-color lighting covering the dashboard and doors. Higher trims can optionally be equipped with a Head-up Display.
The R-Line versions are equipped with enhanced comfort seats, with the R-Line and Black Style offering Varenna leather upholstery featuring R-Line branding as part of the Seat Comfort package. The front seats are electrically adjustable and have memory function. A panoramic roof is available across the entire model range, and the Harman Kardon sound system is offered as an optional extra on higher versions.
The wireless App-Connect feature allows compatible smartphones to connect to the car, and USB ports provide up to 45W power for charging. The T-Roc is also equipped with a range of driver assistance systems. Park Assist and a rear-view camera are standard features. The IQ.DRIVE optional package includes functions such as adaptive cruise control, Front Assist with pedestrian and cyclist monitoring, Side Assist, blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, and lane keeping assist with congestion and emergency assistance.
The five-seater T-Roc has a trunk capacity of 475 liters, thanks to the increased dimensions and extended wheelbase. Power is provided by a 1.4 TSI turbocharged engine with 110 kW, paired with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The engine develops a maximum torque of 250 Nm in the range of 1500 to 3500 rpm.
