Caution: Check These 6 Points Before Providing Data to Quick Loan Applications

Quick Loan applications, which offer funds in just a few steps on a mobile phone, may seem like a lifesaver in a difficult moment, but this service can later turn into serious problems. Providing such applications with data like Aadhaar, PAN, bank account information, or any other personal information without proper verification endangers not only your money but also your confidential data.

Therefore, when applying for a digital loan, the primary question should not be how quickly you will receive the money, but whether the lender is genuine and reliable.

Problems often begin where the quick loan offer seems too simple and tempting. Fraudulent or malicious lending apps disguise themselves as legitimate lenders to attract clients. Sometimes they advertise low interest rates, but after receiving the loan, additional fees and commissions are charged, causing the repayment amount to be significantly higher than expected. In such cases, relying solely on the app's simple interface or quick approval is extremely risky.

Imagine a student suddenly needing money. An application offering a loan in minutes might instantly catch their attention. The process seems simple after entering data such as phone number, Aadhaar, and PAN. However, it is critically important to stop and verify the identity of the lender. According to Puji Abhishek Singh, head of Manipal Fintech, serious red flags include ambiguity in lender identification, limited available information, and loan approval without proper creditworthiness assessment.

The presence of an app in the Google Play Store or another marketplace is not an automatic guarantee of its reliability. Before downloading, you must carefully examine the developer's name, the app description, the privacy policy, customer support information, and recent user reviews. Furthermore, you should cross-reference the company information provided in the app with its official website. If discrepancies are found in the name, company details, or contact information, caution should be exercised.

When obtaining a digital loan, the most important question is who is actually providing the funds. You need to check the correct name and regulated status of the bank or NBFC under whose name the loan is being provided. Puji Abhishek Singh also emphasizes the need to ascertain whether the application is affiliated with any regulated organization. This can be done using official sources from the RBI and digital lending directories.

You should not automatically grant permissions if a lending application requests access to phone contacts, call logs, media files, or other personal information without a clear reason. While the camera or other permissions may be required for KYC, requesting any information cannot be considered normal. Experts note that in any case, three aspects regarding permissions are important: why it is requested, how necessary it truly is, and how clearly this information is conveyed to the client.

Even if a loan offer looks attractive, one should not make a decision based only on the interest rate. To understand the true cost of the loan, you must carefully study the Annual Percentage Rate (APR), processing fees, other charges, repayment schedule, loan term, and the total amount to be repaid. Despite the advertised low rate, additional fees and commissions can significantly increase the overall cost.

A few minutes of caution before taking out a digital loan can protect you from serious financial and informational risks. It is necessary to compare the app's information with the official website, verify the lender's identity, read the privacy policy, and understand exactly what information is being requested and why. Confidential information concerning you or your family should only be shared with official and reliable platforms. Legitimate and transparent lenders must clearly explain what data they collect, why it is needed, and how it will be used.

The convenience of quick lending becomes useful only if the lender behind it is reliable. Therefore, next time, before clicking the 'Accept' button in a loan application, pause, verify the lender, and thoroughly review all loan terms. An easy loan taken in haste can come at a high price.
