Significant improvement in electricity supply is being observed in the Namangan region due to the implementation of new energy projects. This was reported by regional governor Shavkat Abdurazakov during the commissioning ceremony of new facilities on August 25, 2026, which was attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The governor noted that a $200 million energy storage system with a capacity of 200 MW is under construction in the area bordering Kyrgyzstan. Furthermore, projects for developing solar and other types of power generation are being implemented in the Namangan region.
Currently, two solar power plants with a capacity of 500 MW each are operating in the region. Construction of power plants with a total capacity of about 300 MW is underway in the districts of Chust, Chartak, Naryn, and Uch, and another 200 MW station has been announced for the Pap district.
Abdurazakov stated on the Uzbekistan 24 television channel that residents of Namangan no longer face power outages. During the ceremony on August 25, 2026, the project for an energy storage system in the Uch district was presented, which includes the installation of a 100 MW accumulator with a capacity of 200 MWh. This system stores electricity during periods of low demand and supplies it to the grid during peak consumption by households and enterprises.
Additionally, small hydroelectric power plants Kugai-1 and Kugai-2, with capacities of 12 MW and 6 MW respectively, located on the Bolshoy Andijan Canal, have been commissioned in the Uchurgan and Naryn districts.
In addition to the energy sector, the region is intensifying investment activities. Abdurazakov reported that $4 billion was attracted last year, and $3.2 billion in the first eight months of the current year. The goal for the full year is set at $5 billion. As part of recent cooperation with Azerbaijan, three projects totaling $210 million have begun implementation in the Namangan region. This year, 12 trillion soms in investments are being utilized in the region through all sources of financing.
Road infrastructure development continues. This year, the authorities plan to repair and modernize 1,300 kilometers of internal roads. The governor specified that 6,400 kilometers of such roads have been paved in recent years. Abdurazakov also stated the region's intention to achieve poverty reduction and unemployment elimination goals by the end of the year.
For his part, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted the economic changes and the emergence of new industries in the Namangan region over the past decade. On August 25, 2026, the head of state participated in the commissioning ceremony of 72 major investment projects and 91 social facility across the country, totaling 50 trillion soms.
