More than 50,000 people from other regions of Uzbekistan have moved to work in the Navoi region. This was reported by regional governor Normat Tursunov on August 25, 2026, during the opening ceremony of new facilities, which was attended by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
According to the head of the region, attracting labor from different parts of the country is part of current efforts to reduce unemployment and increase public income. Tursunov noted that the region is implementing a salary increase system approved by the president, which includes recruiting personnel from other territories. He linked the growing demand for staff to economic development and the creation of new production capacities in the Navoi region.
Speaking about the energy sector's development, Tursunov announced that the project to build a 300 MW solar power plant with a 150 MW energy storage system is nearing completion in the Nurotask district. This facility is being implemented in cooperation with a Chinese company and is preparing for commissioning. The total capacity of solar and wind projects being implemented in the Navoi region has reached approximately 2 GW.
Furthermore, as part of industrial localization initiatives, the region has begun producing goods worth 3 trillion soms. Tursunov also informed about preparations for the opening of four social infrastructure facilities, including one school and three kindergartens. He emphasized that the region aims to transition to single-shift schooling in schools, with the overall transition rate reduced to one.
During the ceremony, officials announced the launch of 72 major investment projects and 91 social sector facilities across the country, totaling 50 trillion soms. Specific energy projects include the commissioning of 1,573 MW of generating capacity in the Sir Darya region, as well as a 200 MW wind power plant and a 100 MW energy storage system in Karakalpakstan. Projects in the Navoi region are intended to produce 657 million kWh of electricity annually.
In the Namangan region, an energy storage system worth 200 million US dollars and 200 MW was presented. This region also has two solar power plants, each with a capacity of 500 MW. Hydroelectric projects are underway in the Chust, Chartak, Naryn, and Uch regions with a total capacity of about 300 MW, and an additional 200 MW project has been announced in the Papsk district.
